Why Build a Sauna?

Commercial saunas cost $15,000–$40,000 installed. Barrel saunas are cramped, fixed in place, and limited to one layout. Traditional custom builds require contractors, permits, and 3–6 months of waiting. The Saunosphere is a modular sauna kit you build yourself from standard lumber — typically under $7,000 in materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend stoves rated 15-20 kW for the Saunosphere volume. Popular choices include the Harvia M3, Kuuma Vapor 50, and TimberWolf 9. The handbook includes stove clearance requirements and chimney routing for each option.
A wood-fired stove reaches sauna temperature (80°C/176°F) in about 45-60 minutes. Electric heaters are faster at 30-45 minutes. Once hot, the insulated shell holds temperature for hours.
Absolutely. The R-20 mineral wool insulation and vapor barrier are designed for cold climates. Builders in Minnesota, Finland, and Norway use their Saunospheres year-round, even at -20°F (-30°C).
Proper sauna ventilation requires an intake vent near the heater and an exhaust vent on the opposite wall. The handbook includes exact vent sizing and placement for safe, comfortable air circulation.
In most jurisdictions, yes. The trailer-mounted Saunosphere is designed within standard trailer dimensions and weight limits. You will need a trailer registration and appropriate hitch. Check local towing regulations for specifics.
